David Xiao

David Xiao

David Xiao is currently a Junior at the American Heritage Schools – Broward Campus. He has played the violin for 10 years. He studies under Ms. Huifang Chen. David has won many violin competitions. He received the Judges’ Distinction Award & 1st Place at the American Protégé International Concerto Competition 2022. He was also chosen as a 1st Place Winner of the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition Spring 2022. David will perform at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in one of the American Protégé Season 2023 Winner Recitals on June 30, 2023. David won the highest violin solo level, Violin Solo Advanced Class II, and its endowment award, at the FFMC (Florida Federation of Music Clubs) 2022 Junior Music Convention and State Competitions. David won 1st Place in the 2022 FSMTA (Florida State Music Teacher Association) District 6 Senior Strings Concerto Competition and 2nd Place in the FSMTA State Senior String Concerto Competition. David’s other awards include 1st places at FSMTA District 6 Concerto Competitions in Intermediate, Junior and Elementary levels, 2nd places at FSMTA State Concerto Competitions in Intermediate and Junior levels, winners at FFMC Junior Music Conventions in concerto, solo, and other categories in his 7 years of participation, and a 3rd place winner of the 2021 Festival of Arts Boca’s Music Competition. David was also an Irene Muir Memorial Award nominee at the FMMC Junior Music Convention in 2018. David participated heavily in orchestras, string quartets, and bands. He participated in FYO (Florida Youth Orchestra) for 8 years. While he was principal of his sections and co-concertmaster/assistant concertmaster of his orchestra divisions many times, currently he has been a Concertmaster of the top orchestra, Principal Orchestra, of FYO, for 2 years in a row. David was the Concertmaster of the 2022 and 2023 Broward All-County Gold Orchestra. He has been selected to the Florida All-State Orchestra for 4 consecutive years since he started participating. He has been selected into the New World Symphony (NWS) Side-By-Side Concert Program and performed in the program’s concerts for 3 consecutive years. In the 2023 NWS Side-by-Side concert program, David is also selected to be a concertmaster. He played in FYO’s Aurora String Quartet serving in community performances for 2 years. He also played at his church’s Sunday worship band since 2018. Besides music, David has a big passion for filming and he makes short films actively both for movie making and events reporting for his school and church.
