Kai Lonergan

Kai Lonergan, 14, began his guitar studies at the age of 4 with Gabriel Deutsch and since age 8 has been studying with Joseph Spoelstra. Kai has enjoyed attending numerous guitar camps; the Ann Arbor Suzuki Guitar Institute, the Colorado Suzuki Institute, the Denver Suzuki Guitar Summit, the Hartt Suzuki Institute, the Los Angeles Suzuki Institute, and the Northern Illinois Suzuki Guitar Institute. Kai was selected to perform on the Honors Recitals for the Los Angeles Suzuki Institute in 2018 and the Colorado Suzuki Institute in 2016, 2017 and 2021.

In December of 2019 Kai was awarded First Place in Division 1 of the Bickford Award presented by the American Guitar Society. In February of 2020 he was awarded First Place in Division 3 of the Pacific Guitar Festival. In May of 2021 Kai performed the Concerto for Lute RV 93 by Antonio Vivaldi with Chamber Orchestra as a guest of the San Fernando Valley Cello Ensemble.

Kai was part of the Los Angeles Youth Guitar Orchestra under the direction of Felix Bullock prior to the pandemic and hopes to rejoin once they reopen due to Covid restrictions. Kai has also participated in the Los Angeles Guitar Graduation program for the past 5 years and plans to complete all the levels.

In 2021 Kai began teaching and has really enjoyed this experience. In addition to guitar Kai also enjoys Dalcroze, Kung Fu, Spanish, Acting, Stage Combat, and traveling with his family.
