Rayna Kim, 13 years old, is in 7th grade at Rachel Carson Middle School in Fairfax, VA. She started playing the piano when she was in 1st grade. She has shown musicality at an early age and has always enjoyed spending time at the piano. In 2018, She entered her first competition in the NVMTA Sonata Festival, and she was honorably selected to play at the Honors Recital as a winner at Harris Theatre, George Mason University. She performed at Carnegie Hall as a Gold prize winner of the Golden Key Music Festival the following year, playing Invention no.13 by J. S. Bach. The same year, she was chosen for the 2nd round in the Bach/Baroque Festival. In 2019, she was awarded Honorable Mention at NVMTA Concerto Festival. From a young age, she’s had many musical experiences like singing solos in church, playing in hand chime performances, partaking in Korean traditional musical instrument recitals, playing main roles in Christmas musicals and so on. She enjoys herself on the stage. She also has played the violin since 3rd grade, and has been selected to join the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (AYPO) as a first violin. She was awarded Honorable Mention at YMIC Metropolitan Music Festival. She is now a student of Dr. Mihyang Joo since 2021. Besides music, she enjoys reading and writing, organizing, studying scientific subjects, playing tennis, and doing any kind of physical activity.
