
Albert Dong is a 10th-grade student at Sewickley Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He began studying the cello in first grade and is currently a student with Mr. Adam Liu. Albert has been a dedicated member of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra (PYSO) since 2022, serving as Assistant Principal Cellist (2023) and Principal Cellist (2024–2025). As part of PYSO, he has regularly performed at Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts and participated in a concert tour of Portugal in the summer of 2023. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Orchestra. These experiences have nurtured his growth as both a musical leader and a collaborative artist.
Competitions have played an important role in Albert’s musical development. He won first place in the 2024–2025 PYSO Concerto Competition, earning the opportunity to perform Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with the orchestra. Additionally, he won first prize with special mention in the 2025 Bach International Music Competition, 2nd prize in 2024 ENKOR International Competition in Strings, and was a winner of the 2024 Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artist Competition. For Albert, music is a source of inspiration, comfort, and personal growth.
