Andrew Park, a fifteen-year-old violinist and sophomore at Phillips Academy Andover, studies violin under the guidance of Professor Ronald Houston at Southern Methodist University.
Andrew draws deep musical inspiration from performing and collaborating with friends in orchestras. Motivated by this passion, he began participating in the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO) in fifth grade and currently performs with GDYO alongside Phillips Academy Orchestra and Chamber Music Society. Andrew believes classical music is where his passion for music finds its most harmonious expression. He is certain that music offers a means of self-expression that cannot be conveyed in words.
Andrew was selected for the 2025 TMEA All-State Orchestra and has been a four-time TMEA All-Region violinist since 2021. He earned a Gold Medal at the Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest and received multiple Excellence Awards at the Frisco ISD Solo-Ensemble Music Competition. His achievements also include honors from the TMTA & TMTEF Competitions, as well as the DMTA Symphony Music Festival.
For him, not only competitions but also community concerts are important musical activities that he actively participates in. He performs at Church mass and various local concerts, contributing to the popularization of classical music, something he can do as a student. In ninth grade, he participated in a performance of Schubert’s Mass with the school orchestra and choir. He also played violin in the pit orchestra for the school production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”The moment when the orchestra and the play work together in real time to create a performance is so special that it will remain in my memory for a long time.
Andrew won 1st place in Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Philharmonic Concerto Competition in January 2025, and performed as a soloist with the orchestra in October 2025. Recently he participated as the violin 1 in the School Chamber Orchestra which played the full movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No.5.
Outside of music, Andrew enjoys cooking and baking, especially preparing authentic dishes from scratch for his family. He likes reading about history and politics, playing tennis with friends, and spending time with his dog, Charlie. His favorite pieces always include Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and Kodály’s ‘Dances from Galanta’.
Watch Andrew Park perform Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64 (3rd Movement) by Felix Mendelssohn on the violin for the 2025 Global Music Competition as part of the Charleston International Music Competition.
