David Jon Gene Siu

Hello! My name is David Siu. Currently, I am a freshman (class of 2028) at Campolindo High School in Moraga, California. I am comfortable playing both violin and viola in both solo and ensemble settings. I currently study violin under the tutelage of Heghine Boloyan in El Cerrito, who continuously shapes my technique as well as working on my musicality. Previous to working with Ms. Boloyan, I studied under Ms. Chloe Ross from The Studio Violin in Lafayette, California. In an orchestral setting, I am currently a member of the Campolindo Symphonic Orchestra playing in the first violin section playing under the baton of Ms. Tana Barnett. Previously, I served as principal concertmaster for the Stanley Middle School Advanced Orchestra, guided by Mr. Eric Price. My journey through music has also taken me to be part of the California Music Educators Association (CMEA)’s Bay Section Honor Orchestra. During this period, I played in the first violin section with some of the finest young musicians in the area. Under the direction of violinist and conductor Rem Djemilev, I played in the first violin section for six seasons. Outside of the orchestral setting, I play both in solo recitals, and chamber music performances. I am an active chamber musician, frequently performing in duets, quartets, and other chamber ensembles across the Bay Area.

As a Composer, I find lots of joy in creating new music to share with the rest of the world. In a way, it is a form of expression to share my story. My compositions include works for full-string orchestras as well as chamber ensembles like string quartets, quintets, and duets, which are premiered annually.

In 2024 I founded Music For Contra Costa with my brother aimed to give musical opportunities to everyone regardless of economic status or cultural background. Music is one of the greatest things in the world, and being able to share it is the best part.

Outside of music, I do a lot of work with environmental legislation and education. Through Project Earth, I work to decrease my city’s carbon footprint by passing resolutions and educating the community about environmental degradation affecting them. In addition to environmentalism, I am a strong advocate for AAPI work. Currently, I am working with a team called AAPI Youth Rising (AYR) to give youth the chance to speak up. In a way, Asian American history is part of American history. AYR has worked continuously to pass bills in California and around the nation to ensure AAPI education is taught. I love to do parliamentary debate as well since it allows me to think on the spot and enhance my ability to work with others.

Every performance deepens my passion for music, and I’m excited to continue my journey and grow as a musician.
