Queenie Dai, a 16-year-old prodigious flutist, is a rising star in the classical music world. Currently a student at Jericho High School and the Juilliard Pre-College Division, Queenie has been honing her musical talents under the mentorship of Bart Feller, a renowned flutist and instructor at Juilliard. Her musical journey began at the age of 5 when she first picked up the pipa, a traditional Chinese string instrument, laying the foundation for her deep connection to music. At 9, Queenie shifted her focus to the flute, a decision that quickly set her on the path to exceptional success.
Over the years, Queenie has amassed a stunning array of accolades, showcasing her remarkable technical skill and musicality. Among her many achievements are several prestigious awards from international competitions. In 2024, she claimed First Place in the New York International Classical Music Competition and Second Place in the Camerata New Jersey Concerto Competition. Her 2023 achievements were equally impressive: she took home First Prizes in multiple competitions, including the GLORY International Strings, Winds & Percussion Competition, the American Fine Arts Festival International Concerto Competition (with a performance at Carnegie Hall), and the American Virtuoso International Music Competition.
Queenie also won the Grand Prize at VirtuosoChannel’s prestigious competition, a distinction awarded to select first-prize winners from the GLORY competition, which included the honor of a month-long ad spot on the VirtuosoChannel website. Her other notable wins include the First Prize at the Charleston International Music Competition, the Woodbridge Flute Choir Concerto Scholarship Competition, and the American Protege Competition.
In addition to her competitive success, Queenie was awarded the First Prize in the 2022 New York Flute Club Young Musicians’ Contest in the 12-14 age group, underscoring her early promise as a flutist.
