A dedicated Korean pianist, JeeHwan Kim defines his art through a passion for collaborative chamber music and a profound appreciation for the complexities of classical repertoire. His artistic versatility, combined with a deep commitment to musical exploration, has established him as a promising figure in the classical music world. Whether working with soloists or in ensemble settings, he consistently strives to deliver nuanced interpretations and connect with audiences through the emotional depth of his performances.
His accomplishments as a pianist are evident throughout the years. He was awarded the top prize at the Hochiminh International Piano Competition. He was also given a recital at Showa University in Japan and has continued to perform as a concerto soloist on numerous stages. These include performances with the Seoul Arts High School Orchestra where he played Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.24, and with the University of Seoul Orchestra, where he performed Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.2.
In addition, he has been involved in various chamber music performances. Of his many accomplishments, he is particularly proud of the formation of the woodwind sextet ensemble ‘Floraison’ that went on to win a Music Journal Competiton. What is unique about this ensemble is that they were involved in social wellbeing by holding concerts as fundraisers for underprivileged women. Also, he perfomed Schubert’s Winterreise with the vocalists in UOS Art Hall and has collaborated with diverse musicians to present works by composers from a wide range of eras from Broque to Contemporary.
As an artist, he is passionate about breaking away from the fixed performance repertoire. His goal is to introduce new forms of music that will expand audiences’ perspectives by facinating modern music. In one of his projects, for example, he aimed to gradually convey new timbres to the audience by including ‘Fünf Stücke für Klavier’ by Korean composer Isang Yun in the program of a small recital held at UOS Art Hall in 2022. Moreover, he wants to share moments of connection with the audience by offering accessible explanations based on his interpretations, helping those who find classical music challenging to resonate with it more deeply.
After graduating from Seoul Arts High School, he earned a B.M in piano performance from the University of Seoul studying with Professor Ji Eun Kang. He then moved to the United States and is currently pursuing his M.M at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins Universtiy studying with Alexander Shtarkman.
