Joshua Haitian Gould

My name is Joshua Gould. I attend The Nueva School in San Mateo, California. I began playing the piano at six years old, taking private lessons every week with my teacher, Heng Li.

In sixth grade, I also started playing the guitar, practicing weekly in a band that I formed with my friends. We have performed multiple times in front of the school and primarily play rock songs.

In eighth and ninth grade, I studied music theory and competed in various competitions, winning fourth prize in the US International Open Music Competition and earning a distinction and a merit in the ABRSM Grade 5 Piano and Grade 3 Music Theory exams, respectively.

In tenth grade, which I am currently in, I joined my school’s steel drum band. We have performed once so far, playing four songs, and will perform again in front of the school in May 2026, where we will play another four songs.

Watch Joshua Haitian Gould perform Sonata No. 16 In C Major, K.545 (First Movement) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on the piano for the 2026 Spring Music Competition as part of the Charleston International Music Competition.
