Born in Iceland, Karitas Þorsteinsdóttir began her violin studies at the age of five under the guidance of Diljá Sigursveinsdóttir at Tónskóli Sigursveins, one of Iceland’s leading music schools. From the outset, her musical education was deeply rooted in the Suzuki Method, through which she participated in numerous national and international Suzuki festivals and masterclasses, working with highly regarded Suzuki teachers.
Karitas’s musical development has been shaped by her participation in various international programs and festivals, including the Bryanston International Music Festival in England and the HIMA Music Festival in Iceland. These experiences have provided her with a diverse artistic perspective and a strong foundation in both solo and ensemble performance.
In October 2022, she attended masterclasses with Professor Charles Parker Jr. at Temple University in Pennsylvania, USA, an experience that deepened her understanding of advanced violin technique and interpretation within the broader context of classical performance practice.
Beginning in August 2025, Karitas will continue her studies at the Grieg Academy – Institute of Music in Bergen, Norway, where she will work under the mentorship of Professor Ricardo Carlos Odriozola Pérez.
Karitas has performed extensively both as a soloist and chamber musician, including solo appearances with orchestra in Switzerland and at the Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík, Iceland. Her artistic approach reflects a balance of technical precision, expressive depth, and intellectual curiosity, qualities that continue to define her evolving identity as a performer and musician.
