Mason Yuchan Jeong is a 12-year-old 7th grader at Sierra Vista Middle School in Irvine, California. He began playing the flute in 5th grade and, during his first year, became the youngest member of the Pacific Symphony Youth Concert Band (PSYCB), one of the most prestigious youth ensembles in Orange County. In his second year of playing, he won first place in the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF)’s highest level, the Young Musician category, and, as the top wind musician, was selected to perform a solo with orchestral accompaniment at the Winners’ Concert. He has participated in the California All-State JHS Symphonic Band, the SCSBOA All-Southern Band, and the IUSD Honor Bands. He has also received top prizes in several competitions, including the MTAC Concerto Competition, the Bellagrande International Music Competition, and the Musical Arts Competition of Orange County (MACOC). He achieved Level 7 in the Certificate of Merit (CM) program with State Honors, and was selected for the Convention.
