Muchen Liu is a young pianist who began his musical journey at the age of 4 with Mrs Malgosia Lis. From that moment, music became an integral part of his life. Music is not just for him to practice, but for him to truly enjoy and immerse himself in. As he puts it, “A good piece of music will consume your concentration and energy and block out everything else. Sometimes, you can get lost in the music, whisking you away to another dimension and universe.”
His dedication and passion have led to some impressive achievements. He has been recognized with Junior Honors at Hartt in 2023, 2024, and 2025, demonstrating his consistent excellence. He also won 1st place at the 2023 Virtuoso Competition and 2nd place in 2024, along with a Gold Medal at the 2022 Rising Pianists Competition. Beyond competitions, Muchen shines in performances at festivals and recitals, where he captivates audiences with his expressive playing and deep musicality. His chamber music performances also stand out, with his remarkable presence earning praise from local communities.
Music for Muchen extends beyond the piano. He also plays as an accomplished violinist, performing with orchestras and a fiddle band. In addition to his musical talents, Muchen has a love for reading, math, and chess, earning national recognitions in both math and chess as a young learner.
