Olivia Gu is a rising senior at Great Neck South High School. She has been playing clarinet since third grade, and also has taken up bass clarinet in more recent years. Olivia currently studies with Jo-Ann Sternberg at the Juilliard Music Advancement Program, attending the program for five years. She is the principal clarinet, editor-in-chief of the newsletter, and soprano in the chorus. As an avid chamber music player, Olivia won the Lincoln Center CMS Young Musician’s Concert this year and premiered three pieces written for her Juilliard chamber groups. She also participated in the NY All-State Wind Ensemble in 2025 and All-County for six years. Throughout the years, she has performed in various concert halls, such as David Geffen Hall, the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Olivia also co-founded a non-profit called Woodwind Melodies, aimed to help spread the knowledge of classical music and uplift those studying woodwind instruments. At school, Olivia is the principal clarinetist of the wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, and jazz band. She also annually plays in the pit orchestra for the opera and music. She is excited to continue her musical pursuit in these coming years!
