Peter Yoon

Peter Yoon, a high school junior at San Jose, CA, has been playing the violin since he was 8 years old and currently studies under Mr. Byung-Woo Kim. He was introduced to the world of music by his parents, and chose to be a violinist because of the amazing repertoire the instrument had. Peter has been in the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra since 6th grade and the Leland Chamber Orchestra for 3 years. In 2023, he participated in the California All-State Ensemble Orchestra and spent his summer studying at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. This year, he was a part of the CASMEC All-State High School Symphony Orchestra. His talent has earned him numerous awards from the AFAF International Music Competition, the American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music, the Silicon Valley Music Competition, the Bay Area Music Association Competition, the USOMC, and the 2024 CPYO Concerto Competition.

Beyond his musical achievements, Peter is dedicated to community service, volunteering at the Academy of Music and Arts for Special Education where he teaches violin to students with special needs. He is also a member of MUSE, a student-founded music chamber ensemble that performs at senior centers and holds benefit concerts every year to raise money for charity. Aside from music, Peter enjoys 3D modeling, playing sports, building model kits, and spending time with friends.

Watch Peter Yoon perform Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 63, 1st movement by Sergei Prokofiev on the violin for the 2025 Virtuoso Music Competition as part of the Charleston International Music Competition.
