Richard Su is a 13-year-old pianist from Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, who has shown remarkable musical talent since he began studying piano two years ago. Over the past year, he has worked closely with a respected Steinway Artist, Mikhail Yanovitsky, to improve his technique and deepen his understanding of classical music.
In the last seven months, Richard has learned the first movement of Hummel’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in B minor, op. 89, a piece known for its complex fingerwork and demanding style. With just one hour of lessons each week and daily practice, he has reached an impressive level of performance. Playing alongside his Steinway Artist teacher, Richard’s version of the concerto shows both technical skill and a deep respect for Hummel’s music. This performance marks an important step in his growth as a musician.
Watch Richard Su perform Piano Concerto № 3 in B Minor, Op. 89, 1st Movement by J. N. Hummel on the piano for the 2026 Classical Music Competition as part of the Charleston International Music Competition.
