Serene Zhu

Serene Zhu, born in 2008, is from Ashburn, Virginia. She started playing the piano at 5, and has been a student of Mr. Eric Himy since the age of 9.

Serene is very fond of music in impressionism style. With the encouragement from Mr. Himy, Serene explored many pieces from the era from late 19th to early 20th century, as a means to advance her technique and develop the ability to apply a wide range of coloring to her performances.

Serene has won multiple piano competition awards every year in VA, DC and MD. In January of 2025 she performed her favorite piece, Ondine of M. Ravel, at the Weill Recital Hall in NYC.

Watch Serene Zhu perform Ballade No. 1 in G Minor, Op.23 by Chopin on the piano for the 2025 Summer Music Competition as part of the Charleston International Music Competition.
