Sohan Shah is a 10th grader in Texas. Sohan started plying the piano at age 6 with Ms. Nadya Maltseva. He continued training with Mrs. Vita Zharkova and is now a student of Mr. Anton Mordasov. Sohan has won several prizes, including first place, in local, national and international piano competitions. He has been awarded prizes at the DMTA Symphonic Festival, Dallas Piano Solo, Plano Trophy Competition and Frisco Trophy Competition. He was also placed first at the Texas Chopin Society’s Sonata and Sonatina Competition, and performed at the Voertman Hall. Other awards include first place at Texoma Piano Competition and second place at Yvonne Clements Sonata Competition. Sohan has also won first place at The Golden Classical Music Awards, Golden Key and Grand Prize Virtuoso International Competitions. Sohan has been honored to perform at Carnegie Hall (NY), Ehrbar Saal (Vienna), MozartHaus (Vienna) and Izumi Hall (Osaka). Sohan also supports his school drama team by playing the piano at school musicals. In addition to his love for piano, Sohan enjoys playing the harp for his school orchestra and is under the training of Ms. Yumiko Schlaffer and Mrs. Leanna Johnson. As a harpist Sohan has also been a member of Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra for two years. Sohan has earned a position as harpist in the Region 24 All Region Orchestra for four years, and has received a rating of 1 (Performance) in the UIL Solo. Besides playing the harp for orchestra, Sohan is regularly invited to perform for band ensemble competitions, where he plays the harp for enrichment.
