Woongseo (Alex) Nam

Woongseo (Alex) Nam

My name is Alex Nam, a pianist and composer from South Korea now studying at Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Massachusetts. I first sat at the piano when I was four, and the keyboard has been my closest friend ever since. I began to compose at the same time and it also turned out to be a great thing since writing music helps me understand music at a deeper level, while daily practice at the piano suggests when I’m sketching new music. Recently, I’ve been striving to share my performances more openly, shaping a sound that could deliver my thoughts beyond the notes. I hope to grow into an artist who brings profound music and lingers with people.

Watch Woongseo (Alex) Nam perform Étude Op. 25 No. 3 by Frédéric Chopin, Sonata No. 24 by Ludwig Van Beethoven, and Grandes Études de Paganini by Franz Liszt on the piano for the 2025 Summer Music Competition as part of the Charleston International Music Competition.
