
Yu Yan Perrie Lam, 12, is a sixth grader from Washington State, USA and an emerging young pianist whose dedication and artistry have distinguished him on the international stage. Since 2020, he has studied piano with Steinway Artist Dr. Yelena Balabanova, under whose guidance he has developed both technical mastery and expressive depth. Perrie’s passion for music has led him to excel in numerous competitions worldwide, earning awards at the American Virtuoso International Music Competition, WPTA Singapore and WPTA Finland International Music Competition, SCMTA Sonata/Sonatina Festival, International German Music Competition, Pacific Northwest Competition, and the Jazz, Rags, and Blues Festival. The highlights include including Absolute First Prize & Expressive Performance Special Prize at UK International Music Competition, the Grand Prix in the International German Music Competition, Gold Medals at the 7th WPTA Finland International Piano Competition, two Gold Medals at the Time Era Festival, four Gold Medals at SCMTA Sonata and Sonatina Festival, and “The Best Festival” award at the Jazz, Rags, and Blues Festival.
In 2025, Perrie was invited as one of celebrated pianists to perform at the St Thomas Episcopal Church New Year’s Eve Gala Concert in Medina (December) and made his debut Carnegie Hall in New York (October), performed a concert in Meydenbauer Center, Bellevue, WA (October), performed at the Gala Concert in Uusi Paviljonki, Helsinki, Finland (August), and appeared at the EMTA Gala Concert in the Historic Hartley Mansion (June). His performances have also been featured at the Washington State Music Teachers Association District Conference.
Perrie earned the First Class Honors with Distinction from the Royal Conservatory of Music Level 8 Theory Exam and was awarded a Gold Cup Trophy from the National Federation of Music Clubs. Perrie also serves as the Chief Pianist for Varsity Jazz Band and performs as a cellist in school orchestra. Beyond competitions, he has contributed his talent to fundraising concerts in support of human rights and war victims in Ukraine. Perrie currently is a member of ConChord Music and contributing regularly to perform in Seattle communities.
Outside of school, Perrie enjoys swimming, reading, cross-country running, church choir, participating in triathlons, traveling with his family, attending concerts, and engaging in his church community.
