Biography of Zijie Fu
Zijie Fu, born on April 16, 2009, is a remarkably talented young musician known for his exceptional vocal abilities and proficiency in multiple instruments. He began learning singing in 2020, followed by piano in 2021, and added violin and erhu to his repertoire in 2022.

Academic Achievements and Certificates
Zijie’s dedication to music has been recognized through numerous prestigious certifications. In November 2024, he earned a Trinity Grade 8 Certificate with Distinction in Musical Theatre (solo). Earlier that year, in October 2024, he received an ABRSM Grade 8 Certificate with Distinction for violin. Additionally, he achieved an ABRSM Grade 5 Theory Certificate with Distinction in August 2024. His vocal prowess was acknowledged with a Trinity Grade 8 Certificate with Distinction in November 2023, and he secured a Merit in the Trinity Piano Grade 8 exam in June 2023.

Membership and Orchestral Experience
Zijie has been an active member of several prestigious musical groups. He currently serves as the Concertmaster of Christchurch School’s Regional Orchestra and is part of the Christchurch Youth Orchestra. At Burnside High School, he is involved in the Magna Voce choir, school orchestra, Showquest, and Specialist Music Programme. Previously, he was the Deputy Concertmaster of Christchurch School’s Regional Orchestra in 2023 and a member of St. Bede’s College’s string group and choir from 2022 to 2023. Notably, he participated in the Senior Choir at the 2021 Christchurch Schools Music Festival.

Awards and Scholarships
Zijie’s talent has been celebrated in numerous competitions. In the Saint-Saëns International Music Competition on December 26, 2024, he won the Saint-Saëns Special Award for Superior Interpretation Vocal and gold medals in various categories including Young Artist (age 14-17) Vocal and Classical A (under age 17) Vocal. He also excelled in local competitions such as the Christchurch Society Competition, where he won multiple first places in categories like Unaccompanied Folksong and Vocal Solo. Other accolades include the Silver Award in the “Cultures of China” Water Cube Cup Chinese Songs Contest Final and the Champion award in the first group of the same contest.

Performances
Zijie’s performances have taken him across New Zealand and beyond. He delivered a solo recital at the Institute of Registered Music Teachers of New Zealand (IRMTNZ) Winner Concert in September 2024 and performed as concertmaster in CSRO concerts at Mt Hutt College and Ashburton College. He has also participated in various festivals and events, including the SMP Voice Gala Concert and The Aurora Festival 2024, showcasing his versatility in both vocal and instrumental roles.

Social Service
Beyond his academic and performance achievements, Zijie is committed to giving back to the community. He has performed at various charity events, including the Christchurch City Mission Christmas Carol Service and the Chinese Lunar New Year Gala in New Zealand. His performances often feature a mix of Western and Chinese traditional songs, reflecting his multicultural background and broad appeal.
