Janna Matros

Born in Russia in a musical family, Janna Matros began studying piano at age 6 in the local school of music. During her school years, she performed at multiple competitions and concerts, and at age 15, she began attending the Pavlov Cheboksary Musical College, graduating after 4 years with distinction. During her college years, she started working as an accompanist at the school of music and loved playing with young violinists.

Janna received her music degree from the Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory, studying there for 5 years in the studio of Olga Lebedeva, who was a professor and a former student with renowned Moscow State Conservatoire professor Jacob Milstein. Janna also received her degree as a piano soloist, artist of chamber, and a teacher. While working at the school of music, she especially enjoyed working in the violin studio of Vera Potapova, participating in several competitions with string students.

When she got married, Janna moved from Russia to Sweden, then England, and finally settled in the USA. There she currently raises 3 sons, who are all violinists. Since 2006, Janna Matros has been working at the City Music Center of Duquesne University, accompanying violinist Peter Snitkovsky’s students, as well as singers and other string students. Since 2007, she has also played the piano at the Cornerstone Methodist Church.
