Violinist

Hua Zhang is an accomplished violinist based in the United States and China, active as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral performer, and educator. Known for her expressive artistry and distinctive musical voice, she has performed internationally across North America, Europe, and Asia. Her achievements include Second Prize and Best Performance of Pancho Vladigerov Work at the Pancho Vladigerov International Violin Competition, Second Prize at the Hong Kong International Violin Competition, and additional honors from the Lima Symphony and Minnesota Symphony competitions.
Beyond her success in competitions, Zhang has distinguished herself as both an orchestral and chamber musician. She trained intensively at the Seiji Ozawa International Chamber Music Academy in Japan, an experience that laid a strong foundation for her versatility in ensemble playing. At Indiana University, she served as concertmaster of both the Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras, and she now performs as Assistant Principal Second Violin with the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra. She also maintains an active chamber career, appearing in series such as Fever Candlelight Concerts and the MAFAA Concert Series.
As a dedicated educator, Zhang teaches in both the United States and China. Her students have been accepted to leading institutions and have received recognition in major competitions. Her own artistry has been shaped through masterclasses with James Ehnes, Augustin Hadelich, and Pamela Frank, as well as through mentorship with Kevork Mardirossian, Mauricio Fuks, and Simin Ganatra at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Artist Diploma in Violin Performance.
