Alex Tu, age 12, started playing the piano when he was five years old. He picked up the violin during the pandemic when he was ten years old.
Alex gave his Carnegie Hall debut performance in January 2023. He is the 2022-2023 season Concertmaster of the Sacramento Youth Symphony Academic Strings Orchestra. In the past, he also has held the Principal Violin position in his school band, as well as the Concertmaster position for the 2021 Sacramento Chamber Music Workshop Week 1 Orchestra.
Alex has been invited performed at corporate events and also volunteers to play his music at community and senior centers around Sacramento. His favorite composers are J.S. Bach (for the piano) and Mozart (for the violin).
Outside of music, Alex loves math and science. He has represented his school in math tournaments, and he also competes individually as well. He has a black belt 2nd dan in Taekwondo. Most recently, he is trying out the French horn.
This summer (2023), Alex will join the Sacramento Youth Symphony to perform at Hamburg, Berlin and Munich in Germany.
