Alexander Yu

Alexander Yu, a 15-year-old sophomore at Hunter College High School in New York City, embarked on his musical journey at six, studying classical piano under Dr. Maria Asteriadou at the Manhattan School of Music’s Precollege division. He’s garnered recognition with accolades such as 2nd prizes at the Crescendo International Competition (2022) and the American Protégé International Competition, First Honorable Mention at the 33rd Annual Pre-Collegiate Piano Competition (2023). Recently, he won 2nd prize at the American Music Talent Competition and 1st prize at the Charleston Winter Music Competition (2024). Alexander has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and attended masterclasses with notable instructors such as Dr. Vincent Craig. At school, he’s a member of the chamber group, competed in the 2024 Annual Young Musicians Concert hosted by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and advanced to NYC regional. Apart from his classical pursuits, Alexander is a self-taught jazz pianist, founder of the Jazz Jam Club at his school, and an active member of the Science Bowl and Varsity Tennis Team.
