Alice Zhangyue Li

Alice Li

Alice Li is an 11th-grade student at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut. She began playing the piano at the age of 5, inspired by her older brother, and has been studying with Malgosia Lis at the Hartt School Community Division ever since.

She enjoys playing romantic and baroque music and particularly loves the works of composers such as Bach and Liszt for their complex structures and emotional richness. She also loves playing the works of underrepresented and relatively unknown composers, with her all-time favorite piece being “Sewing Song” by Thomas Wiggins, an extremely talented blind pianist.

In 2024, Alice was a recipient of the Evelyn Bonar Storrs scholarship at the Hartt School for the best performance by a high school student in the Hartt Piano Honors Auditions. Additionally, she has received awards at numerous competitions in the past, including the Jumy Foundation’s J.Y. Park Piano Competition, the Renée B. Fisher Competition, and the Hartford Music Teachers Alliance’s Virtuoso Competition.

Alice also enjoys playing in piano duets, and has won awards with her partner at the J.Y. Park Competition for the Four Hands division. At Loomis Chaffee, she participates in the chamber music program, where she has played and performed numerous piano trios, piano duets, and string quartets. Since 4th grade, Alice has also been studying violin with Ian Pang in Avon, and is a part of Loomis Chaffee’s Orchestra. In addition, she was named a Connecticut Northern Region and Connecticut All-State Violinist in the 2024-2025 school year.
