Allison Kim, an eighth grader attending Union Middle School, started her violin journey at the age of seven and is currently studying with Sonyoung Kang. She has experience participating in the UMS String Ensemble and the San Jose Youth Symphony (Chamber Orchestra). She was the concertmaster of the Concert Orchestra in SJYS in the year of 2024. Besides her work in orchestra and ensembles, she won the Superior Command Performance award from 2024 the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) Regional Solo & Ensemble Festival for her violin duet performance. She also won the Gold award at the CMEA State Solo & Ensemble Festival.
The passion of music that emerged led to her involvement in helping the community through the Almaden Youth Musicians, a non-profit community service organization. She continues to participate in benefit concerts and performances at senior centers. At her school, Allison helps her peers in the string ensemble by staying after school and guiding those who are not fortunate enough for a violin teacher.
The dedication to music from Allison can be found through more than simply her violin journey. She currently plays two other instruments: the piano and clarinet. With her clarinet, she engages in her school Symphonic Band, which is both a concert and marching band.
