Andy Chen

Andy Chen, a junior at Deerfield Academy in the United States, is a dedicated pre-college student at the New England Conservatory of Music. Under the guidance of esteemed instructors such as Dr. Jonathan Bass and Yumei Wei, Andy has cultivated his musical talent since the age of five, specializing in piano performance.

His remarkable achievements include numerous accolades from prestigious competitions such as the International Music Competition Salzburg “Grand Prize Virtuoso,” the Steinway National Piano Competition, the Seattle International Piano Festival & Competition, where he secured 1st place in the SYMF Piano Competition, and triumphs at the Southern California Junior Bach Festival. Critically acclaimed for his “rich sound and excellent rhythmic drive,” Andy’s musical prowess has garnered widespread recognition.

Beyond solo performances, Andy actively engages in chamber music, having been a member of Junior Chamber Music for six years. His musical journey has taken him to cities like Vienna, Prague, and Budapest, where he not only showcased his talents but also contributed to charitable causes benefiting local communities. Collaborations with esteemed ensembles such as the Shekinah Chamber Ensemble and the “Celebration of Young Talent” orchestra further underscore his commitment to musical excellence.

Notably, Andy’s performances have graced renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, showcasing his versatility and artistry on the grand stage. In addition to his prowess as a pianist, Andy has delved into the realm of composition, honing his craft through rigorous study and practice, including exercises from Walter Piston’s Harmony and Counterpoint.

Outside of his musical pursuits, Andy is also a formidable competitor in the Math Olympiad and an avid tennis player. His multifaceted talents and dedication exemplify his commitment to excellence both on and off the stage
