I started flute at the age of 7; my choice was based on the fact that the flute was the shiniest thing in the music store. I was very fortunate to have a wonderful teacher who helped me develop a solid foundation of sound and technique. After moving to California, I embarked on a journey of different teachers until I found one that would fit my needs.
I saw the flute differently throughout different times in my life. As a child, I saw it to be quite tedious and annoying at times, as my mother would force me to practice every day. As I reached middle school, I started to see the flute as a valuable part of me, even though I still found it hard to get myself to practice in the mornings. After reaching high school, the flute became a breath of fresh air amidst the suffocation of college and academic pressures; I started to see the beauty in being able to play these melodies. Now, the flute is not just an instrument I play but a lifelong companion that has shaped my growth, resilience, and appreciation for the power of music.
