
Bowen (Peter) Liu is a dedicated pianist who earned his Master of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Iowa. He is currently completing his Doctoral of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in piano performance also at the University of Iowa under the tillage of the renowned pianist, Dr. Ksenia Nosikova. While completing his degrees, Peter has established himself as a talented and committed artist.
From 2019-2023, Peter served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the piano department. In this position, he taught group and individual piano lessons and collaborated with a variety of musicians. His teaching expertise and collaborative skills have made a significant impact on the musical community at the University of Iowa.
As a classically trained pianist, Peter has achieved notable success in numerous competitions, showcasing his exceptional artistry. Among his recent accolades are second place in 2022 Schubert Club competition, first place in the 2021 Iowa Music Teachers Association competition (IMTA), first place in the 2019 Minnesota Music Teachers Association (MMTA) competition, first place in the 2019 Thursday Young Artist college division, and the winner of the 2019 Concerto-aria competition at the University of Iowa.
In addition to competitions, Peter has enjoyed giving solo recitals and participating in the University of Iowa’s Key Change concert series: Beethoven Sonata Festival and Piano Revolutionaries: works by Scriabin and Rachmaninoff. As the winner of the 2019 Concerto-Aria competition, he had the pleasure of performing Prokofiev’s Second Concerto with the University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra in 2021. Peter’s international debut was in 2023 with performances in Natal, Brazil. Stateside, he has been a guest performer at the University of Northwestern, St. Paul, MacPhail concert hall in Minneapolis, and Opus Café in Cedar Rapids. In 2021 he was invited as a master class instructor at his alma-mater, The University of Northwestern, St. Paul and will be returning for another masterclass and performance in 2024.
