Brandon Lian Chien

Brandon Chien is currently a freshman at Northwood High School in Irvine, CA. He has been playing Alto Saxophone for 4 years and is currently studying under Jason Roberts. He also plays the violin for 9 years. He has been accepted in honor ensembles such as the Irvine Unified School District Honor Orchestra (Principal in 2023), SCSBOA All-Southern Middle School Honor Symphonic Band (Assistant Principal in 2023), as well as the California All-State Junior High Honor Symphonic Band (Assistant Principal in 2023).

Brandon has won awards in various competitions including the 1st place in the Golden Classical Music Awards, American Protégé International Woodwinds and Brass Competition, and the Great Composers Competition – Best Rachmaninoff Performance. He was the prize winner in the Great Composers Competition – the Music of the 20th Century, the North American Virtuoso International Music Competition, as well as the Satori Festival String Contests. He has performed at the Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage and the Weill Recital Hall) and the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. He will make his solo debut at the Disney Hall (BP Hall) this summer.

Currently, he is the principal alto saxophonist for the Pacific Symphony Youth Concert Band (PSYCB). He is also a section member of the PSYCB Saxophone Ensemble and Pacific Symphony Youth Ensemble Saxophone Choir.

Brandon also enjoys music composition, drawing, and playing video games in his free time.
