
Calvin Lee is a rising senior at Northwest High School. He began playing the cello at the age of 8 and currently studies under Kerry Van Laanen. He has been a part of the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra since the 4th grade and is currently a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra. Calvin has been the principal and assistant principal for almost every orchestra in the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras. In addition to the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras, he has also been a part of the All State Junior Orchestra. He has performed at Carnegie Hall multiple times. He has received many scholarships such as one from the Washington Performing Arts competition. He has also received many awards from Young Musicians Inspiring Change including the Best Performer of Gospel Music Festival in 2022. He also won first place in the YMIC Metropolitan Classic Competition in the strings division in 2023. Now he is named President for the Young Musicians Inspiring Change volunteer team. He is the Principal for the Symphonic Orchestra at Northwest High School.
