Carrie Tiong, a sophomore from Lakeville South High School, loves making and sharing her music with others. From a young age, she started learning the piano and became fond of it. Over the years, Carrie has attended many piano competitions, performances, and festivals in the Twin Cities area. Her first notable accomplishment was winning the 2013 MMTA Piano Contest. Afterward, she received an honorable mention at the 2015 PianoFun MN competition. She was a prize winner of the 2019 MMTF Piano Competition and a scholarship recipient of the 2020 Minnesota Public Radio Varsity Young Artist Competition. More recently, she won 3rd place in the National Division at the North Dakota State University Music Performance Competition. Liszt is one of Carrie’s favorite composers. She loves the unique harmonic inventions and mythical characters in his music. In addition to Liszt, Carrie also enjoys performing works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Ravel. Besides piano, Carrie is a top clarinetist in the Lakeville South High School marching band. On December 7, 2019, the band represented Minnesota by performing and competing in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade, bringing home the Grand Championship trophy. Despite having a busy academic life, Carrie finds time to read books, bake, and spend time with friends.
