Catherine Nan

Catherine Nan is a junior at Winston Churchill High School where she is the principal first flute in their top band. She has been studying flute with Susan Brandt for 7 years. Currently, Catherine is the principal piccoloist for the MCYO Philharmonic Orchestra and the assistant principal first flute. She was the principal first flute in the MCYO Symphony Orchestra for the two previous years. As a finalist in the 2022 U.S. Army Orchestra Young Artist Competition, Catherine was invited to perform alongside the U.S. Army Orchestra conducted by MAJ Aaron Morris. Catherine won 1st place in the 2022 Montgomery Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition and was selected to be in the NAfME All Eastern Band chosen from 10 U.S. states and Europe. Catherine was the principal first flute in the 2023 Maryland All State Band, the principal first flute in the 2022 Maryland All-State Senior Orchestra, and has been in Maryland All-State Band in 2021 and 2020. She also was selected to be in the Montgomery County Honors Band for 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Catherine was awarded an honorable mention in the 2021 Asian American Music Society International Competition and won 1st place in the 2020 YMIC Metropolitan Festival competition. She has performed in masterclasses for Maron Khoury of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and for Chris Jewell of the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra.
