
Chang-Chun TSAI was born in 1987 in Taipei City, Taiwan, and has been active in both performance and education in his country. He graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the National Pingtung University of Education in Taiwan.
After finishing his degree, Chang-Chun is continuing his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK with Ian Wright, Simone Rebello, Paul Patrick, Liz Gilliver, and Dave Hassell. He was awarded a Master of Music degree there in 2013 and is very active in college life, participating in a wide variety of ensembles and the annual Day of Percussion. He has performed with these ensembles at festivals in Scotland and Italy. He won RNCM competitions for solo performance and percussion repertoire. He also played in master classes with Keiko Abe, Michael Burritt, Eric Sammut, Mark Ford, and Pedro Carneiro. As an all-around percussionist, Chang-Chun performed Naf’ sha (a world premiere) with bassoon Master Stefano Canuti and was invited to play this piece at the Double Reed Festival in Madrid.
After His studies in the UK, He got the Scholarship to start his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Boston University in 2014 and also won the 2015 Taiwan Ministry of Education studying abroad Scholarship in the highly competitive category. In 2017, Chang-Chun was elected as a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society which is one of the honor societies in the USA. Also, He was the 3rd prize winner of “2018 The North International Music Competition”. He has completed and offered his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from BU in September 2021
He found out that he not only wanted to achieve his career in the academic area but also had a huge interest in Performing career, Chang-Chun kept his Journey at BU for the Postgraduate Diploma in Percussion performance. During his time here, He won the BU Soloists’ competition in year 22-23 and performed his winner’s concert recently with the BU orchestra. As a positive person, he is not only outstanding on his professional side but has a positive effect on his studio, department, and classmates. This can be proved by the departmental Award of the school of WBP at BU
