Chanhee (Joy) Park is a Junior at Seven Lakes High School. He was born in South Korea but from an early age settled in different parts of the world such as India, China, Thailand, and the UK. Having grown up in diverse places, music has served as an important factor in defining his identity and community. Chanhee believes that music is his first language – a language that connects multiple cultures around the world in a harmonious way. Currently, Chanhee resides in Houston, TX, and continues his studies of the violin with Boson Mo from the Houston Symphony. Previously, he has been a member of the Region 23 JH/HS Symphony Orchestra and the TMEA HS State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Desiree Overree. Chanhee is a member of the Houston Youth Symphony (HYS)’s Symphony Orchestra under Dr. Michael Webster. Recently, he was a scholarship recipient to the 2021 ENCORE Chamber Music Institute’s Summer Academy and has had masterclasses with renowned violinists Jinjoo Cho, Brendan Shea, and Sibbi Bernhardsson. Chanhee’s musical awards include being a two-time TMEA All-State Orchestra member, TSSEC (Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition) Gold Medal and Outstanding Performance Awardee (Top 2-3%). He is also part of musical organizations such as the Back to Back Project, the Tri-M National Music Honor Society, and music education group PracticePals 501(c)(3). His violin influences include Hilary Hahn and Augustin Hadelich. Aside from music, Chanhee is passionate about poetry and policy analysis. He is interested in the advocacy of the arts and serving communities through the arts. In the future, he would like to double major in music and political science with a concentration in International Relations.
