Chloe Rene Castillo

Chloe Castillo, age 16, is a homeschooled sophomore who has served as a Youth Ambassador for the Gurwitz International Piano Competition since 2015, opening recitals for concert pianists and performing in promotional events throughout San Antonio. She started her piano studies at age 4 and is currently a student of Kenneth Thompson of the Musical Arts Center of San Antonio. In addition to performing as an ambassador for the Gurwitz, Chloe has also played at the Tobin Center and with SOLI Chamber Ensemble and has participated in TX State University’s International Piano Festival and Interlochen Online Summer Arts Camp. A recipient of MACSA’s Performance Honor Roll and Young Artist Awards, and the San Antonio Gardenia and Musical Club’s Fine Arts Award, Chloe has also taken highest prizes at local, state and national piano competitions including the Texas State Young Artist Competition and the Texas Music Teachers’ Association State Level Piano Competition. Chloe has enjoyed private lessons and masterclasses with several prestigious pianists, including Anton Nel, William Wolfram, Yaron Kohlberg, Dr. Rene’ Lecuona, Dr. Jason Kwak, Dr. Daria Rabotkina, John Wilson, Yedam Yim, and SOLI Ensemble’s Dr. Carolyn True. She is developing as a jazz pianist and is currently working on starting a jazz trio. Chloe also collaborates with classical musicians and is a member of a trio with strings players she befriended in San Antonio’s Junior Tuesday Musical Club. Most recently, Chloe founded an international music club that is quickly gaining momentum, connecting musicians across cultures and political divides, and was featured speaking about her venture on a nationally syndicated radio show.
