I am a sophomore at Winston Churchill High School in Maryland. I started to play violin when I was five, and I kept playing. Now, I’ve been playing violin for more than 10 years. I learned how to play violin in China for about 8 years. I built a great foundation for violin playing during my years in China. I learned not only classical music but also traditional Chinese-style music. I played “Song of Nostalgia”, “Harvest Song of the Fisherman”, etc. They all gave me a full new version of the Violin’s musical expression. In 2022, my family moved to the US. I couldn’t find a violin teacher, so I almost stopped playing violin. But luckily, I met my private teacher, Mrs.Stern. I studied with her and made a lot of achievements. I played in the MCYO symphony as an assistant principal in 8th grade, a first violin in the MCYO chamber ensemble, and now, I joined the top orchestra–philharmonic orchestra. I’m an active member of the school’s top orchestra. I’ve played in the orchestra for two years and I’m the principal of the second violin section. I also joined the MCYO chamber group program as a first violinist. It was a great experience and I learned a lot from it. We played Beethoven String Quartet No. 4 in C minor, Op. 18, No. 4 (I. Allegro ma non tanto). I got full scholarships for 3 years from MCYO. I was invited to be concertmaster of the Washington Metropolitan Concert Orchestra in 2022 and was also accepted three times by the Maryland All-State Orchestra, in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Besides joining music groups and orchestras, I also made achievements in violin competitions. I was awarded First prize in the International String Competition (Hong Kong), both solo and duet. I also got third place in the 2024 Metropolitan Live Classical Music Festival.
Rather than just playing violin, I use my violin playing skills to bring other people happiness. I have passion for community services. When I was in elementary school, I played in the senior center for elders. I also played for little children during summer vacation. Now, I play for others voluntarily in MCYO and Music & love volunteer organization. I also joined the school music club and played for people in hospitals and senior centers.
