Ethan Hong

Ethan Hong, 15, is a sophomore at Henry M. Gunn High School at Palo Alto, California.

Ethan’s musical journey began at the age of 5 when he started playing violin and piano. Ethan sang at Silicon Valley Boychoir for 5 years and made his operatic debut at the age of 10 in the starring role of Antonio in the World Premiere performance of Bless Me Ultima with Opera Cultura, as well as singing in the chorus of La Boheme with West Bay Opera.

At age 11, Ethan began studying the saxophone and has been a student of Dr. Michael Hernandez since 2021. Ethan has held principal positions in the California Youth Symphony, the SJSU Honors Wind Ensemble, the San Jose Saxophone Choir and the Santa Clara County Saxophone Ensemble.

This past summer Ethan traveled to Germany and took part in the Raschèr Baltic Academy where he worked intensively with the members of the World Famous Raschèr Saxophone Quartet.

Currently, Ethan plays soprano saxophone in the Elegy Quartet and the SJSU Sax Chamber Orchestra and plays tenor saxophone in Gunn High School Jazz Ensemble and alto saxophone in Gunn High School Wind Ensemble.
