Ethan Waines age 9 was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and had started learning the piano since age 5 from teacher Mijin Jeon.
In 2021, he has passed both (ABRSM) Grade 8 Piano Exam and (ABRSM) Grade 5 Music Theory Exams with High Distinction. In 2019, he passed his (ABRSM) Grade 5 Piano Exam with High Distinction and was invited to play in the ABRSM High Scorer’s Concert. In 2019, he also won 1st place in the Christchurch Competitions Society Under 9 years Contemporary Music category.
Ethan also loves playing the violin and French horn. He has been learning the violin for 1 and a half years and will be taking his (ABRSM) Grade 5 exam this year. Ethan is also extremely passionate about science. This year he wrote, produced, filmed and edited a video linking science with music, called the Science of Music. He also played all the main and background music in the video. The Science of Music won 1st Prize in the 2021 University of Canterbury Science and Arts Competition (Year 5 – 7 category). Ethan’s other hobbies include watching science videos, reading adventure books, playing chess, coding, filming and making videos.
