Giovanna Chui, 16, is a versatile musician with a deep passion for singing, performing, and creative expression. A multi-instrumentalist, she plays piano, guitar, and drums, and has been immersed in music from an early age. She currently attends California School of the Arts (CSArts) in the Popular Music Conservatory, where she continues to develop her skills in musicianship, collaboration, and stage performance.
At age 13, Giovanna was recruited by one of China’s largest entertainment companies to train as a girl-group trainee, prompting her to leave school and pursue professional training overseas. This experience deeply shaped her artistic discipline, resilience, and understanding of the demands of a music career. She later documented this journey in her book The Trainee, reflecting on her growth as an artist and her decision to return to the United States to continue her education while pursuing music with clarity and purpose.
Inspired by her own musical journey and struggles with tedious, unmotivated practice, Giovanna also founded MusicPals.org, a mentorship initiative that connects young music learners with experienced student volunteers for guided practice support. Through this work, she combines her passion for music with leadership and service, supporting and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
