Starting violin at age 10, my passion for the instrument has only grown these past seven years of learning. As a rising senior, it is becoming more difficult to find time to practice and perform, but I put a lot of effort into making room for violin because it has allowed me to express myself without the use of words and has connected me on another level with so many diverse people. I love participating in the Alabama All-State Orchestra Festival each year, and I have participated in all three levels (Consort, Sinfonia, Festival) because the excitement of playing music with a big orchestra is unmatched. I am also a part of both the Montgomery Youth Orchestra and Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, allowing me to further experience the pure goodness of music and how it brings people together. In my spare time, I love performing short pieces for my family and neighbors (I once went Christmas “caroling” with my friends as a trio) because even though I am not the most exceptional violinist out there, music is powerful. It heals, it comforts, it loves— and that is why I believe it must be shared.
