James Elbrus Leehealey

James is a 17-year-old cellist who began his musical journey at the age of five. Currently a senior at Corona del Mar High School, James has demonstrated extraordinary talent and dedication, which has led to his first-place victories in several prestigious competitions. These include the Southern California Junior Bach Festival, the 3rd Annual Concordia Music Competition, and the IAPMT competition in the Virtuoso category, the latter earning him a solo performance at Carnegie Hall in January 2024.

James’ early commitment to excellence is evident in his completion of all 10 levels of the ASTA Certificate of Merit for cello while still in elementary school, showcasing his dedication to mastering his craft from a young age.

In addition to his competitive achievements, James serves as the section leader for his high school orchestra and holds the distinguished position of 1st stand in the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, where he has been an essential member since September 2018.

Beyond the stage and competitions, James is passionate about using his musical talents for charitable causes. He has performed for organizations like Music of Hope, which works with the City of Hope Cancer Foundation to bring music and awareness to cancer clinics and survivors.
