As at home with a paint brush as on the concert stage, Jared Waters is a 3rd year DMA student and visual artist studying Saxophone Performance with Dr. Christopher Creviston at Arizona State University. Originally from Columbia, SC, Jared studied with Mandy Sloan before obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from Central Michigan University and his Master’s Degree in Music Performance from the University of Oklahoma.
An advocate for chamber music, Jared is the soprano saxophonist of the award-winning Elysian Quartet. The ensemble won the 2018 NASA Quartet Competition and the 2018 MTNA Chamber Music Competition before recording and releasing their debut album “Red”. The group has also premiered original arrangements for saxophone quartet in Cortona, Italy and the 2018 World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia.
Jared seeks to highlight underrepresented voices within music. As a member of the Queer Saxophonist Consortium, he has contriubted to commissioning new works for saxophone by queer identifying composers. A decorated soloist, Jared has been awarded 1st Prize in the 2021 Medici International Music Competition, won the 2017-18 OU Concerto Competition, and won the 2020-21 ASU Concerto Competition.
Intent on expanding the saxophone ensemble repertoire, Jared’s arrangements for ensemble have been premiered at the 2018 World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia, the 2018 NASA in Cincinnati, the 2019 Region 4 NASA in Fayetteville, AR, and every year since 2010 at the Saxophone Summer Camp in Columbia, South Carolina.
