Ji Heon Kim (b. 2000, South Korea) has appeared with world-renowned groups as principal clarinet such as the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Eastman Philharmonia, Honor Orchestra of America, as well as perform all over the country. He has also performed with the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Philharmonic Orchestra during his high school career as principal clarinet from 2016 to 2018. He has also performed in several renditions of Broadway musicals such as Fiddler on the Roof, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Aside from performance, Kim is also passionate about education and teaches a variety of subjects. Kim teaches privately in his hometown and his students are frequently placed into All County and All Region ensembles. He has also tutored students in math and english ranging from elementary to middle school students across the country through Daekyo America. He is also a TEFL Certified educator since the summer of 2021.
Kim has participated in music festivals including the Music For All National Festival, Idyllwild Summer Music Festival, and the Buffet Crampon Clarinet Summer Academy. Recent masterclass performances also include classes held by Stephen Williamson, Dean LeBlanc, and Florent Heau.
Kim is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Clarinet Performance at the Eastman School of Music and will be pursuing a Master’s degree in Music Education at Carnegie Mellon University in the Fall of 2022. His teachers have included Kenneth Grant, Larry Guy, and Donald Mokrynski.
