
Admired for her “pure poetry” (NFA Chronicle), Ji Weon Ryu has been the Principal Flute of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra since 2019 and is the first Asian Wind Principal in their history. She has also held the positions of Principal Flute with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, the Britt Festival Orchestra, and the Seoul Arts Center Festival Orchestra, and participated in numerous international festivals including the Verbier Festival and the Tanglewood Music Center.
A frequent performer with the New York Philharmonic, she has performed with the Chautauqua, Princeton, and Syracuse Symphonies, and has appeared as a soloist with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Her recordings as Principal Flute include many contemporary works with the Albany Symphony Orchestra and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, winning the 2021 and 2024 Grammy Awards.
In 2022-2023, Ji Weon served as a Flute Instructor at Louisiana State University and has given masterclasses and clinics at The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Berklee College of Music, Tulane University, and the University of Kansas, among many others.
Ji Weon holds a Master of Music degree in orchestral performance from Manhattan School of Music and both a Bachelor of Music degree and an Accelerated Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School.
