Jianan Xu

Jianan began to study piano at age of 6. In 2003, Jianan was admitted into “Affiliated Middle School of Shanghai Conservatory of Music ” and studied with professors Dan Shao, Ying Wu and Ting Zhou. In 2005, Jianan was enrolled into Oberlin Conservatory of Music “Sedmara Rutstein Piano Master Class’. In 2006, Jianan was directly admitted into “Music Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music ” without audition. In the same year, Jianan won the gold award of the “third national youth piano invitational tournament Beethoven music festival” in Germany and was invited to participate in the special performances of Beethoven music festival in Bonn, Germany. In 2007, his first solo piano concert was successfully held in Shanghai,China. In 2009, Jianan won the gold award of the“Five municipalities’ piano competition. In 2010, Jianan was invited to attend the music festivals in Spain and France by the famous American pianist Solomon Mikowsky.At the same year, Jianan was selected for the “International Piano Competition of Eastman Young Artists’. Sequentially, Jianan had won many awards, such as the outstanding student scholarship of Shanghai “Xingguang Project ”, Tang scholarship and Dr. En-Teh New scholarship. In 2011, Jianan gained the special scholarship from the principal to study in the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the United State, and study with Alvin Chow, the chair of the Piano Department, and Angela Cheng, the famous Canadian pianist. He took the Fortepiano as a secondary and studied with David Breitman.In 2014 and 2015 he successively held his own solo concerts at Warner Concert Hall. In 2014, he was invited to attend a concert in Finney Chapel on behalf of the Piano Department of Oberlin Conservatory of Music. In school, he performed many chamber music and piano duet concerts. In 2015, Jianan was selected for the final of Wideman and Oberlin International Concerto Competition. Jianan graduated with a bachelor music degree with excellent academic performance. From 2013 to 2016, Jianan Became the ensemble manager of the Oberlin symphony orchestra. In 2016, Jianan chose “Mannes School of Music” for his Master Degree. He won the high praise from Vladimir Feltsman, the famous Russian pianist and educator, and became the only student of Vladimir Feltsman in that period. In 2017, he was interviewed by “Headline”. Jianan Finished his Master Degree in 2018. Jianan played the Franz Liszt piano concerto No. 1 in E flat Major in Stiefel concert hall, New York. In June of the same year, he was invited to take part in the public benefit piano duet concert and piano master classes held by “Shantou city federation of returned overseas Chinese”, “Shantou musician association and the association of returnees from the overseas study” and accepted many interviews such as Shantou broadcasting station “FM102.5”, Shantou TV “News Today” and “Chaoshan Wind” show and so on. During 2018-2021, Jianan performed many solo and piano duets concerts in Shanghai, China. In 2022,Jianan Xu entered the University of Kansas to begin his doctoral program
