Joanna Laurie Cheng

Joanna Cheng is 17 years old and is a 12th grader at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Virginia. She has studied piano with Dr. Marjorie Lee for ten years. She was pleased to receive 1st place in the 30th International Young Artist Piano Competition (IYAPC) in 2015 and played at the winner’s concert at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium stage. That year she also won the MTNA Virginia competition and represented Virginia in the MTNA Southern Division competition in Tampa, Florida, winning Honorable Mention. More recently, she won 1st place in the 2018 Robert & Frances Allen Young Artist Competition. She has also won 1st place in the 2019 Elite International Music Competition as well as 2nd place in the 2020 American Protégé International Piano & Strings Competition.
