Joel Rice, a freshman in the Seattle, Washington area, started playing piano at age 7. Originally he played piano rather casually. During the pandemic he discovered a passion for the piano and the music it creates. A few of his more prominent honors include: Two gold and one bronze awards in the Northern Lights Piano Festival. a gold medal in the Seattle Virtuoso Festival and acceptance in the BYU Musicians’ Institute. In the future he hopes to continue on his piano journey and eventually study piano in college. He especially enjoys the works of Schumann, Liszt and Messiaen.
