Classical guitar soloist, collaborator, and arranger Joshua Mayo is hailed for his love of the music and his desire to share that love with others. Expressing his versatility from traditional Baroque through Modern compositions, as well as arranging Popular music for solo guitar. He has performed with and learned from many virtuosos such as Roland Dyens, Ben Verdery, Paul O’Dette, Lynn McGrath & Jiji Kim; embracing their musical nuances in his performances. Joshua Mayo began studying classical guitar with Chuck Hulihan at Glendale Community College at the age of sixteen, and had taken 3rd in MCCD’s (Maricopa Community College Districts) Artist of Promise 2013, and his Octet taking 1st for ensemble. In 2014, Joshua Mayo had taken 1st as Soloist, and 2nd in Duo. Also winning the 2014 Guitar Foundations of America Ensemble Competition with his Octet. Beginning his study at Oklahoma City University in 2015, he has studied under Prof. Matthew Denman (GFA’s prior director of education), Kyle Patterson, Stephen Lochbaum, Celin, Lito, Celino, and Pepe Romero, as well as Dr. Lynn McGrath. Joshua Mayo currently Studies under Jiji Kim, ASU’s professor of classical guitar pursuing his Masters in Performance Pedagogy. Upon completing his Junior recital in 2017, Dr. Lynn McGrath spoke on his performance. “His love for the music and desire to share that love was one of the most powerful aspects of his performance, and is something that even some professionals could learn from.”
