Joshua Joo-Young Kucharski

Joshua Kucharski is currently an eleventh-grade student at DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, MD and student at the Julliard Pre-College in NYC. He began playing trumpet in 2015, studying with his father who plays in the USAF Band in Washington DC, and he also studies with Raymond Mase at Juilliard in NYC. Joshua was formerly principal trumpet for three years in the Maryland Classic Youth Symphony program (MCYO Symphony), having recently completed a summer tour of Italy with the Symphony, and one year as co-principal trumpet of the Peabody Youth Orchestra at Johns Hopkins University. Currently, Joshua is principal trumpet of the Juilliard Pre-College Concert Orchestra. Joshua has received superior ratings from 2015-2018 at Maryland State Solo and Ensemble, as well as performing with the Maryland All-State Junior Band in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, Joshua won first prize in the Concert Artists International Competition in 2017, with an opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall. This winner’s concert culminated in Joshua receiving an additional prize for outstanding live performance among his peers in all instrumental categories. In March 2019, Joshua was invited to compete in the live final rounds of the National Trumpet Competition (NTC) held at the University of Kentucky, where he was awarded first prize in the Junior division. He was also invited to compete in the live final round of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) conference solo competition in July 2019 located in Miami, Florida, and was awarded second place.
